"I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by And that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I have always joined the PTA organizations of schools whether I was the parent of an attending student or a member of the faculty. I strongly believe that in order for schools to be effective learning communities, the parents must be a recognized and involved part of the school. Parents as their children's first teachers represent school supporters and stakeholders who can work together with teachers and administrators to develop schools that put children first. The vision, mission, and belief statements provide the framework for the district to define the expected condition of the teaching/learning environment that the community agrees to attain. Parents and school faculty must be educated to strive together toward the realization of the beliefs, mission and vision of their school community. Only through continuous communication, collegiality, learning and teamwork with the focus on common goals; can schools with parents and faculty work together achieve student success. School reform models such as Ferguson's Tripod Model and Comer's School Development Plan emphasize that strong parental involvement is essential to improving school effectiveness to obtain student success. The role of parents can not be overstated in helping to prepare children to succeed in school and in life.
